Y5K went to Ewden

May 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Y5K recently went to Ewden education centre. We’re learning about Water in our geography lessons at the moment so we went to find out all about water! We did two different activities, one where we went to find out about how water is cleaned and one where we were finding different facts out about where water comes from and what it’s job is. My favourite one was when we were finding out different facts about what water’s job is!

We will miss you Miss Kunze

March 11th, 2008 · No Comments

On Wednesday 12th March Miss Kunze, a year 5 teacher, is leaving! We will miss her a lot. Hopefully she will come and visit us again. She taught Miss Freeman’s class. She was a really nice teacher! She helped us all on our work when we got stuck on a question. She really explained it clearly when we didn’t understand so we did.

Investigations In Numeracy

March 4th, 2008 · No Comments

This week in numeracy lessons I have been investigating different things. Like today I have been investgating about tennis, who can play tennis about lots of different situations. Yesturday we investigated about fuit bars and chocolate bars. When I don’t understand I just try my best and sometimes I get it right but not all the time. At the end of each lesson the teacher gives out a certificate to the person who can understand and explain how they got the answer. I have never got the certificate before because I don’t always understand what the teacher says we have to do.

Music

February 4th, 2008 · No Comments

In Y5F we have been listening to and making Cuban music with a visitor named Eral. We learned some new rhythms and beats, which were easy to remember if you sung the words that go with the beats. One of the sets of words that we sung went: Tin-go-go-go-go-go-go.  Hopefully, we’ll get to record them soon and you can listen too!

Cuban Music

February 4th, 2008 · No Comments

This year Y5 (Miss Fs class) are doing a performance of Cuban music in Sheffield.  Cuban music is jolly and friendly it has lots of drumming in it.  We are making instruments but we are not going to decorate them because when we play them the decoration will probably fall off!

Eral, who has been to Cuba, has been into school to show us how to play and make our instruments.   We have also been searching for information about Cuban music; there are lots of instruments with wierd names like ’Shakira’! We have a song that we play. It’s called Tin-Go-Go-Go-Go-Go-Go and it keeps repeating itself.

Gymnastics Competition

January 18th, 2008 · No Comments

On Thursday 17th January 2008 Stocksbridge Junior  School Gymnastics team went to All Saints College to compete in tournament. We went in two teams of five with a reserve and a mascot. We each performed a floor routine and a vault sequence. We did so well that both teams received awards and altogether we managed to get through to the next round. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without Miss Freeman our coach so thank you very much from all of the squad!

Swim, Swim, Swim

January 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Every Thursday, Y5F go swimming at the Leisure Centre.  It’s a bit of a rush to get there and it’s even more of a rush to get back especially as it’s up hill  and we’re tired from all the swimming but it’s still great fun.  There were three different groups: one for beginners, another for fairly good swimmers then top group for good swimmers. Most people are in the middle group.  We can’t wait until next week!

Athletics Competition

January 18th, 2008 · No Comments

A carefully selected squad of Y5 and Y6 children took part in the first round (Links Cluster) Sheffield Schools Athletics Competition on Tuesday 15th January 2008.  It took place at Stocksbridge High School, where we competed against two other schools; sadly, Oughtibridge were unable to make it. We each did field events (things like long jump, the speed bounce and the seated throw) and also competed in a variety of track races. To get through to the next round we had to pick up as many point as possible so we had to to win lots of races - in fact, we won them all! When they announced the final scores we had 81 points; 30 points ahead of second place! We all cheered and some of us cried… happy tears of course!

December 18th, 2007 · No Comments

Yesterday afternoon  Y5F made party hats for the Y5 christmas party which is on wednesday the 19th of December. After making the hats we saw the mess we had made -the classroom looked like a bomb had hit it!!! So we tidy it up but we didn’t do a very good job because when we had picked the rubbish up on our trip to the bin we dropped all the rubbish on the floor. Opps!!!

November 27th, 2007 · No Comments

Last week y5 were learning about animals in Kenya, we chose are four favourite animals and made there skin patten on polystyrene. They chose there favourite colors out of yellow, black, green and red ink. They used the polystyrene patten with ink on a piece of material and it printed the patten.Lots of people did paw prints ,zebra strips and leopard spots.Every were very happy even though the pencils rules and pens got covered in ink.But they were also happy because we didn’t do boring writing.Everyone the next day got into big trouble because the toilets were coverd in ink.

Girls Football Team

November 20th, 2007 · Comments Off

Every Wednesday lunchtime, at school, years 5 and 6 play girls football. We have a coach who teaches us and gives us tips on how to play. He, the coach, still remembers my sister who did it who is now in year 8. Now he has stated calling me my sisters name! It is really quite annoying! Anyway it is still really great fun!! It lasts for an hour and a fun time is had by all.  from L.Bye

Many people have been climbing the table in the schools fantasy football team, trying hard to make their way up to the top. It’s great fun to manage your own football team you have £70 million to buy any players from the prem but can’t have more than 3 players from each club. You can see our school league table at www.schoolsfl.com

Harvest

November 20th, 2007 · Comments Off

Last half term we did a school performance for Harvest about how to save the world.  Each class had a different part and our class, y5f, did a short poem about the world. Other classes did short plays or songs.  Now we think about how to look after the world more often now.

Kelham Island

July 2nd, 2007 · Comments Off

On Monday 25th June 2007 , 5 people from y5 were chosen to go on a trip to Kelham Island. These people were Tom, Liam, Zakk, Kate and Summer. There were 15 authors and 1 poet there. In the morning we got to work with Anne. We were writing poems about Kelham Island.  In the afternoon we worked with an author called Jane but we only got to work with her for 10 mins because we quickly had to be evacuated. It had rained so much that the river nearby was about to burst.  Apparently within 30 minutes of us being evacuated to the Winter Gardens on higher ground, the river burst and flooded the whole of Kelham Island.  We eventually made it back to school but unlike lots of other schools in Sheffield, ours wasn’t closed!

The Cricket Festival

June 19th, 2007 · Comments Off

A couple of weeks ago Miss Kiff took a few children to a cricket festival. She slpit us into 3 diffrent groups: group a, group b and group c .  We were against Deepcar School and Saint Ann’s. The competition was quite tough.  The competition was supposed to end at 4:30 but finished at 5:20 instead so we were a little late home! It was the most fun ever; Miss K said we were all very sportsmanly.  Amazingly Group A came 2nd overall!
