On the 16th of April 2008 a few children from each year group (30 in total) went to the Octagon centre at Sheffield University for a Movement Festival. We had been practicing for about 8 weeks with Miss F. We really hoped that we would get it all right becasue it was a tricky routine. Some of us invited family and friends for this ‘Around the world’ theme. All of the Links staff were dressed up in diffrent countries. We wore new bright yellow t-shirts with ‘Stocksbridge Super Stars’ printed on them. Other schools did dances from around the world like hip hop, indian dancing and cheerleading. The routines involved lots of clever lifts. We were supported by Miss Willats, Miss Freeman (our teacher for dance) also Mrs Proost (with her little girl) and Mrs Dawson and also Miss Kiff.

Y5K recently went to Ewden education centre. We’re learning about Water in our geography lessons at the moment so we went to find out all about water! We did two different activities, one where we went to find out about how water is cleaned and one where we were finding different facts out about where water comes from and what it’s job is. My favourite one was when we were finding out different facts about what water’s job is!

On Monday 10th March 2008, Some y6 pupils (and some y5) went along to the EIS, to compete in the South Yorkshire Indoor Athletics Finals. Eight schools had gone through to the finals (two from Barnsley, two from Sheffield, two from Doncaster and two from Rotherham); but sadly, only 7 showed up.
Jordan started us off with a clear first place in the one lap sprint. As the boys were running like mad, the girls were also working their hardest on the field events. It was a great success!
After the boys, they had the old switcheroo, and the girls began to work their socks off on the track. Amy C whizzed easily to the finish line to set the girls off on a role! Jack (who had been brought into the squad especially for this event) threw hs javelin so far that the wall at the other end of the sports hall was the only thing to stop it from circling the world!
Finally, it came to the results. As the places were being announced, everyone sat nervously with their fingers and toes crossed. …7…6…5…4…3…2…1… STOCKSBRIDGE JUNIORS! The crowd roared with excitement - it was the 1st time ever, that S.J.S had won. It was a truly great day! :-)

S.J.S made a stunning performance yesterday at the English Institute of Sports in the South Yorkshire Indoor Athletics final. Our school has been amazing at each of the rounds so faras everyone has tried their absolute hardest to do their bit as a part of the team. The work paid off; we won!!!!!!! Everyone was nervous as the commentator revealed the places from 7th to 1st place. We couldn’t believe it when it was only the two Sheffield schools left for 1st and 2nd places, even moreso when he read us out for 1st place! Well, everyone in our school now says, “We’re the best team in South Yorkshire!” All the athletics teams are surely going to cherish the memories forever.

On Thursday, 8 children who had the most PFWAs went to Stocksbridge sport hall to play lacrosse. The team lost the 1st and 2nd games, however, we won the 3rd and 4th. At the end of the day we came 2nd, only 2 points behind the winners! Contgratulations to Deepcar who won fair and square and now go through to the next round.

A small gathering of children have been to visit the amazing Richmond Hill Primary School in Doncaster this morning. In fact, we’re still here now reporting to Mr F about improvements we’d like to make to our school:
- An adventure playground
- Climbing wall
- A special story tent
- Mikey Mouse taps!
- A huge electronic image display in the hall (”Pretty please Mr F,” said Miss W.)
… to name just a few!

On Monday 25th June 2007 , 5 people from y5 were chosen to go on a trip to Kelham Island. These people were Tom, Liam, Zakk, Kate and Summer. There were 15 authors and 1 poet there. In the morning we got to work with Anne. We were writing poems about Kelham Island. In the afternoon we worked with an author called Jane but we only got to work with her for 10 mins because we quickly had to be evacuated. It had rained so much that the river nearby was about to burst. Apparently within 30 minutes of us being evacuated to the Winter Gardens on higher ground, the river burst and flooded the whole of Kelham Island. We eventually made it back to school but unlike lots of other schools in Sheffield, ours wasn’t closed!

On Thursday 28th of June the y6s went on a trip to lightwater valley. The y6s were on the coach for approximately 2hrs. When they finaly arrived the year 6 groups went on the first ride (the ultimate swings). The next ride they went on was the eagles claw, a rotating bar in the shape of an eagles claw and many more rides.
We had a great day but we were very tired on the way home - even Mr Heaton and Miss Burston fell asleep on the coach. It was especially nice to see mrs Gaymond!
HERE IS THE MAP!

Recently, our school took part in the Outdoor Athletics competition at Woodburn Roud. It was 3:30 until 7:00pm. It was a very good experience for all of us. We did lots of training with Wani which was great fun. Some people luckily got through to the final and I was one of those people. I was amazed because I thought I was rubbish.
It was really good fun and i would like to go again.
This is a photo of us practising our baton changes.

On Friday, both football teams headed down to Sheffield Wednesday’s Middlewood ground-our mission to secure a place as the team representing them in the regional finals.
The y6’s started well, winning both their opening games 1-0 ; unfortunatley one of these was against the y5’s. Despite their early defeats, the y5’s fought on to gain a place with the y6’s in finals.
The first semi-final was not between us and it went right down to penalties. Then it was our turn. The y6’s gained an early lead and managed to hold on for a win. Sadly, this put the y5’s out of the competition.
Then came the final- y6’s to do us proud. But that was not to be. Despite a flurry of goal chances at the end, they lost.
Lee Bullin, a Wednesday 1st team player, handed out the certificates and we went back to school for a normal afteroon.
