Dance Club Movement Festival

May 8th, 2008 · No Comments

On the 16th of April 2008 a  few children from each year group (30 in total) went to the Octagon centre at Sheffield University for a Movement Festival.  We had been practicing for about 8 weeks with Miss F. We really hoped that we would get it all right becasue it was a tricky routine.  Some of us invited family and friends for this ‘Around the world’ theme. All of the Links staff were dressed up in diffrent countries. We wore new bright yellow t-shirts  with ‘Stocksbridge Super Stars’ printed on them.  Other schools did dances from around the world like hip hop, indian dancing and cheerleading.   The routines involved lots of clever lifts. We were supported by Miss Willats, Miss Freeman (our teacher for dance) also Mrs Proost (with her little girl) and Mrs Dawson and also Miss Kiff.

The County Final Has Come!

March 11th, 2008 · No Comments

On the 10th of March 2008, Stocksbridge Junior School’s amazing Athletics Squad went to the South Yorkshire finals to compete for the title of the best team in South Yorkshire. The athletes went to the EIS (English Institute of sport) to hopefully win the most races as possible to get the most points and therefore earn the title of South Yorkshire winners! At the end of the competition, everyone who took part, sat nervously as the result were counted.  Amazingly, after about 6 years of SJS squads competing, WE WON!!!

Running For Victory!

March 11th, 2008 · No Comments

On Monday 10th March 2008, Some y6 pupils (and some y5) went along to the EIS, to compete in the South Yorkshire Indoor Athletics Finals. Eight schools had gone through to the finals (two from Barnsley, two from Sheffield, two from Doncaster and two from Rotherham); but sadly, only 7 showed up.
Jordan started us off with a clear first place in the one lap sprint.  As the boys were running like mad, the girls were also working their hardest on the field events. It was a great success!
After the boys, they had the old switcheroo, and the girls began to work their socks off on the track.  Amy C whizzed easily to the finish line to set the girls off on a role!  Jack (who had been brought into the squad especially for this event) threw hs javelin so far that the wall at the other end of the sports hall was the only thing to stop it from circling the world!
Finally, it came to the results.  As the places were being announced, everyone sat nervously with their fingers and toes crossed. …7…6…5…4…3…2…1… STOCKSBRIDGE JUNIORS! The crowd roared with excitement - it was the 1st time ever, that S.J.S had won. It was a truly great day! :-)

S.J.S victory

March 11th, 2008 · No Comments

S.J.S made a stunning performance yesterday at the English Institute of Sports in the South Yorkshire Indoor Athletics final.  Our school has been amazing at each of the rounds so faras everyone has tried their absolute hardest to do their bit as a part of the team.  The work paid off; we won!!!!!!! Everyone was nervous as the commentator revealed the places from 7th to 1st place.  We couldn’t believe it when it was only the two Sheffield schools left for 1st and 2nd places, even moreso when he read us out for 1st place! Well, everyone in our school now says, “We’re the best team in South Yorkshire!” All the athletics teams are surely going to cherish the memories forever.

Swim, Swim, Swim

January 18th, 2008 · No Comments

Every Thursday, Y5F go swimming at the Leisure Centre.  It’s a bit of a rush to get there and it’s even more of a rush to get back especially as it’s up hill  and we’re tired from all the swimming but it’s still great fun.  There were three different groups: one for beginners, another for fairly good swimmers then top group for good swimmers. Most people are in the middle group.  We can’t wait until next week!

This year’s sponsored event

July 2nd, 2007 · Comments Off

This year’s sponsored event

This year’s sponsered event was a penalty shoot out with Steve Adams a former Sheffield Wednesday player. The cause for the sponsered event was to raise money for sport equipment for the school. There was also a a sum of money to ensure a education for a child in Kenya . A sum of money was donated to Bluebell hospice.

The Y6’s were the first to participate, they had to be split into two teams the aim as you may or may not know was to score as maany goal against the opposing team.  We had to shoot against miss willats (she even saved Alex’s shots!) and others against miss sheehan.

The Cricket Festival

June 19th, 2007 · Comments Off

A couple of weeks ago Miss Kiff took a few children to a cricket festival. She slpit us into 3 diffrent groups: group a, group b and group c .  We were against Deepcar School and Saint Ann’s. The competition was quite tough.  The competition was supposed to end at 4:30 but finished at 5:20 instead so we were a little late home! It was the most fun ever; Miss K said we were all very sportsmanly.  Amazingly Group A came 2nd overall!

The bad news about sports day.

June 19th, 2007 · Comments Off

rainy-oriental-garden.JPG

On the 15th of June 2007 , we were supposed to have our sports day, but unfortunately, due to the rain, it had to be cancelled. Luckily enough, it will now be postponed to the 17th July 2007. I was looking forward to the relay race and I hope that this year will be a success! Ironically, last year’s sports day was also cancelled because of the very hot weather. In my race, I am going to compete against my best friend, that will be a big challenge!

rainy-oriental-garden.JPG

On the 15th of June sports day was ment to take place but … it was cancelled, due to lots of rain! The field was like a swamp, if you had to run on that you would have probably sunk. The sports days will be now on the 17th July that, I hope will give it pleanty of time to dry out. I was wanting a sucessful sports day because last year it was cancelled because of hot wheather! But this year, please, make the weather just perfect.

Athletics Training

March 6th, 2007 · Comments Off

On Tuesdays, various Y6 and Y5 children travel down to Stocksbridge Leisure Centre. On the ground floor, in the basketball court, the children vigorously train for field and running events. The field events include: seated throw, target throw,  long jump and high jump. Running events sited there involve: relay racers in several varieties, along with sprinting and distance. Training finishes at 3:10.

We hope all of their hard work pays off next week at the Sheffield Schools Indoor Athletics Final! Good luck to them all.

Futsal Day at SJS

February 19th, 2007 · Comments Off

Recently, Steven, a futsal coach, came in to teach us how to play the competitive sport - futsal. Futsal is a game with 5 players either side and you are only allowed 4 seconds to put the ball back into play and take goal-kicks. This makes it a very fast moving game. The ball is very heavy so it does not bounce and it can not be lifted over a certain height. The sport is played in Brazil from a young age, hence their nifty tricks on the international pitch. Futsal is a thorourally enjoyable sport.
