Som of the footballers would rather play out than come to SAM learning club, today I’m going to ask some Year 6 children what they think of SAM Learning.

Ellie A: ” Well samlearning is great, good , good, very good, it is making me think more!”

Jordan B: “I think is it super it is going to give me a level 5!”

Farrell H: “I think i am going to get a level 5 and it helps me study!”

Ben A: “It is fun!”

Alice W: “It is good it is so great it makes me smile when i here the word sam learning!”

Gaby  S: “It is great it is one of these thing that i just love, it is supper, i mean super!”

Jessie R: “It’s so boring and sad!” 

Victoria S: ” It is great for helping me get a level 5!”

SAM learning has been a great new thing for SATs revision for Year 6. Miss W first introduced us to SAM learning 30th January 2008 and now loads of people have logged in to complete activities at home. Miss W even spotted that a Year 6 pupils little brother (Year 4) had logged in himself to have a look!  This great site has been scientifically proven to help y6 children do better in their SATs although we’ve been told we still have to do our other homework - this is as well as.  The y6 teachers think it really will help the children to go and get the level 5 they need!

This week we have started looking at poetry and our very first literacy lesson was with Miss W in the ICT suite.  We looked at a poem called Bug Chant and had to record it using Audacity.  I was in a group with Jack and Callum from yellow group and Katie from red group.  We split up the verses and practised a few times to check we knew who was reading what.

I had great fun recording my voice even though I sound wierd!  I’m looking forward to writing my own verses for Bug Chant next week.

The Year 3s have been learning how to record and manipulate sound.
Using a piece of software called ‘Audacity’, the children recorded a nursery rhyme then used some of the effects to change the way their voices sound.

On Tuesday 24th April Mr Wilson’s literacy set were taught how to create podcasts by Miss W and Andy. We worked in pairs, which made it even more fun, to practice and record our reports on a carnival. We had written a first draft down the day before so we just had a little practice then used a program called Podium to record them.  It was really exciting and I sounded really funny when I listened to myself!

In year Mr Wilson’s literacy set, with Miss Willats, we did podcasts. Podcasts are a recorded piece of writing you can post onto the Internet. We used a program called ‘podium’ to record our podcasts. I worked with Emma D an Alice P. Once you press stop, It shows you how much you have recorded and how big the sound waves were depending on how loud you speak into it. I had a lot of fun, and can’t wait to do it again some time. We had to do it on a news report about a trip to a carnival, and we either worked in groups of two or three.

On the 24th of April the year 5 top literacy set made podcasts. The day before we all wrote about a carnival in the genre of a newspaper report so that we could record these as podcasts. We had to speak into a microphone which recorded our voies. Then we got to listen to it and see the sound waves. The podcasts were realy fun to make as everyone felt like real reporters! Some of us got jingles on the front of our reports, this made it sound really dramatic, like we were breaking news. On some of the reports we said about rides going at 25 miles an hour!

Mr. Heaton’s class, Y6H, have been learning about different topics in science. First of all we designed a contents page, then we created 4 different slideshow pages about, sound, light, forces and materials. During our science studying we leart about 8 different topics, such as: sound, light, forces, materials, electricity, water cycle, healthy living and teeth.

Congratulations to this CC4G member who won an iPod shuffle when she introduced a friend to the club!

 In Y6 there are many different lessons that take place including: English, maths, RE, PE, Geography, History and many more! After being in this school for many years now i have learnt a lot about the subjects we have covered!!! i loved making our DT fairground move in ICT.

Year 5 Literacy in ICT 

Learning Objective: To post a report about Kenya

Success Criteria:

• Use relevant technical language
• Use of paragraphs/subheadings
• Use of the present tense and third person
• Use images to help to give information more clearly
• Use websites and library books to find factual information about Kenya

We have been  using Flowol to make flowcharts which control the traffic lights.  A couple of people managed to get the sequence right but others are definitily going to confuse the traffic - what should they do if all three lights were lit?!
