This week in numeracy lessons I have been investigating different things. Like today I have been investgating about tennis, who can play tennis about lots of different situations. Yesturday we investigated about fuit bars and chocolate bars. When I don’t understand I just try my best and sometimes I get it right but not all the time. At the end of each lesson the teacher gives out a certificate to the person who can understand and explain how they got the answer. I have never got the certificate before because I don’t always understand what the teacher says we have to do.

In literacy we have been writing diaries about a story called The Windmill. It’s about two boys called Andrew and David. Their family is called the Dolton Family so they are called the Dolton Brothers. The boys went to stay with their grandad’s friend’s farm where they’d been lots of times before. The old man, Old Rusty, had bright red hair but he only had one leg but in the story it said he used a cruch like a second leg .He also looked after goats. He had a massive goat farm then the council decided to build a Windmill on the farm. Rusty didn’t like technology he thought the windmill was a bad idea but they built it anyway. The boys were worried about the caves they liked playing in. They put three wings on the windmill and when the boys woke up they saw that there was a fourth wing on the Windmill. It looked like a space ship or a giant bat wing or a wasp wing.

This year Y5 (Miss Fs class) are doing a performance of Cuban music in Sheffield. Cuban music is jolly and friendly it has lots of drumming in it. We are making instruments but we are not going to decorate them because when we play them the decoration will probably fall off!
Eral, who has been to Cuba, has been into school to show us how to play and make our instruments. We have also been searching for information about Cuban music; there are lots of instruments with wierd names like ’Shakira’! We have a song that we play. It’s called Tin-Go-Go-Go-Go-Go-Go and it keeps repeating itself.

This year SJS writing week has been based on the book ‘Blodin the Beast’ by Micheal Morpurgo. Miss Sheehan’s literacy set created some other wierd and powerful monsters to base our stories on. Here are some examples:
Moonlet Army
Icicle The Dragon
Bigfoot

During writing week in Year 4 we have been writing our own stories based on a picture book called Blodin the Beast. We had to pick a name for our characters then pick what Hosea (the little boy) took with him on his journey through the mountains, the jungle and the desert. We also had to figure out what equipment to use to destroy the monster. We had early literacy lessons and extra literacy lessons all to try and finish our story of Blodin the beast. Thankfully Miss S was on hand to help us improve our sentences.

Yesterday afternoon Y5F made party hats for the Y5 christmas party which is on wednesday the 19th of December. After making the hats we saw the mess we had made -the classroom looked like a bomb had hit it!!! So we tidy it up but we didn’t do a very good job because when we had picked the rubbish up on our trip to the bin we dropped all the rubbish on the floor. Opps!!!

This week we have started looking at poetry and our very first literacy lesson was with Miss W in the ICT suite. We looked at a poem called Bug Chant and had to record it using Audacity. I was in a group with Jack and Callum from yellow group and Katie from red group. We split up the verses and practised a few times to check we knew who was reading what.
Have a listen to our very first recording. Next time, I think we need to ask everyone in the background to be very quiet!

I had great fun recording my voice even though I sound wierd! I’m looking forward to writing my own verses for Bug Chant next week.

In Year 3, we’ve been learning lots of facts about the Romans:
The romans built a very long wall to stop the celts from attacking their Land. The celts were the Romans enimes. The Romans came from a city called Rome. The Celts didn’t like the Romans because they were taking over where the Celts lived and it wasn’t fair. The Romans built a wall to keep the Celts away.

In my art lessons I have been making an designing patterns of animals and there different types of of stripes and what they have on there body, what their skin is like. Art is my favourite lesson when we are in our literacy lessons, but in my maths set my favourite lesson is maths. The other day we made patterns using paints to design our pattern we made in our book the day before. But before we did any of that we had design our pattern pressing on gently and then we covered it in paint using a roller brush and then pressed hard on a material. The colurs we had a joice of using were green, red, yellow and black.

The Year 3s have been learning how to record and manipulate sound.
Using a piece of software called ‘Audacity’, the children recorded a nursery rhyme then used some of the effects to change the way their voices sound.
See if you can identify which of these effects have been used:
~ amplify
~ change pitch
~ change speed
~ change tempo
~ echo
~ repeat
~ reverse
~ wahwah

On Tuesday 24th April Mr Wilson’s literacy set were taught how to create podcasts by Miss W and Andy. We worked in pairs, which made it even more fun, to practice and record our reports on a carnival. We had written a first draft down the day before so we just had a little practice then used a program called Podium to record them. It was really exciting and I sounded really funny when I listened to myself!

On the 24th of April 2007 we did music. We watched a clip of a film about an astronaut and then we tried to make our own music to it. Everyone played their music to the class. We then made sounds with our mouthes to match the poem that we were given. It was really fun!

In year Mr Wilson’s literacy set, with Miss Willats, we did podcasts. Podcasts are a recorded piece of writing you can post onto the Internet. We used a program called ‘podium’ to record our podcasts. I worked with Emma D an Alice P. Once you press stop, It shows you how much you have recorded and how big the sound waves were depending on how loud you speak into it. I had a lot of fun, and can’t wait to do it again some time. We had to do it on a news report about a trip to a carnival, and we either worked in groups of two or three.

On the 24th of April the year 5 top literacy set made podcasts. The day before we all wrote about a carnival in the genre of a newspaper report so that we could record these as podcasts. We had to speak into a microphone which recorded our voies. Then we got to listen to it and see the sound waves. The podcasts were realy fun to make as everyone felt like real reporters! Some of us got jingles on the front of our reports, this made it sound really dramatic, like we were breaking news. On some of the reports we said about rides going at 25 miles an hour!
COOL!!!
