Healthy Week in Y4

May 21st, 2008 · No Comments

IThis week is healthy week! So far this week Y4K have been at the sports centre to do ball skills relays, we have been at the tennis courts plus we’ve tasted and reviewed lots of different unusual fruits. Yesterday year 4 all rotated classes for 45mins each session to do science activities with different teachers; Miss Sheehan did about the human body, Miss Willats let us use lots of different science computer programs and Miss Bower did about healthy teeth. It was great!

Can’t wait to find out what we’re doing tomorrow!

Video conference

May 21st, 2008 · No Comments

Last week Miss Willats told us all about video conferencing.  It sounded great so when we found out that we were going to video conference with another school, we got really excited!  On wednesday afternoon we video called another set of Y5’s at another school; Greenhill who are right over the other side of Sheffield. We had 30 children in our classroom talking to Greenhill school, they only had about 8 children so it was far easier for us to see each of their faces than it was for us to see them. One of the boys cheekily asked if there were any cute girls in our class. Some of the girls got really embarresed but most of us just waved back at him!

The reason for this video conference was to introduce each other’s schools.  A few chidlren from each school had prepared a report about different things about our school.  After each school had presented, we both looked at each other’s websites to find out more.  We then linked up again to ask each other questions. I liked one of things on there website which said ‘Greenhill’s got talent’! We like that idea and hope maybe one day that we would hold the same type of event at SJS.  the only problem was the strange clciking noise that came out of the speakers.  We also need to remember to be very quiet when someone from the other end is speaking!

Next time we see them, Miss W says we’re going to have a maths quiz against them!

Our school has a huge new fish tank in the entrance hall!  It was very exiting when it arived because nobody was expecting it.  It arrived one afternoon last week but didn’t have any fish it it for about a week.  Now there are twelve fish in it that are three breeds that all like to live in cold water.  One of the breeds is a goldfish.  The school is having a competiton to see who can think of the best names - Mr H thinks that the best name is Peter.

y4 Athletics

May 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Some of the Y4s went to an athletics competition at the High School in Stocksbrige.  We had do all different events like hurdles, long jump, speed bounce, chest push and many more. The athletics was for boys and girls in y3 and y4. We tried our very best.  We went with our very supporting teachers Miss Keating and Miss Sheehan. It was very tense waiting for the results.  They read out that in fourth place was Wharncliffe Side and in third place was St Anne’s.  That left us and Deepcar for first and second.  When they said that Deepcar came second we couldn’t belive that we’d won! There had never been a y3 and y4 athletics competition before so hopefully the Y3s and 4s will follow our winning next year. Our two teachers have been helping us out by training and prapairing for the competion.

Dance Club Movement Festival

May 8th, 2008 · No Comments

On the 16th of April 2008 a  few children from each year group (30 in total) went to the Octagon centre at Sheffield University for a Movement Festival.  We had been practicing for about 8 weeks with Miss F. We really hoped that we would get it all right becasue it was a tricky routine.  Some of us invited family and friends for this ‘Around the world’ theme. All of the Links staff were dressed up in diffrent countries. We wore new bright yellow t-shirts  with ‘Stocksbridge Super Stars’ printed on them.  Other schools did dances from around the world like hip hop, indian dancing and cheerleading.   The routines involved lots of clever lifts. We were supported by Miss Willats, Miss Freeman (our teacher for dance) also Mrs Proost (with her little girl) and Mrs Dawson and also Miss Kiff.

Gym Club Movement Festival

May 8th, 2008 · 1 Comment

On the 16 of April 2008 a few of us, about 30 in fact, went to the octagon center and performed different routines for in front of family and friends and children from other schools. The theme was all around the world; loads of schools came. We practiced for 8 weeks.  We all had different outfits (we looked so cool). Some of us performed the gym routine but we neede mats so had to wait for them to be put out.  At first it was scary but as soon as the music started we tried our best.  We were suported by the techers and staff from the office as well - thank you!

Y5K went to Ewden

May 1st, 2008 · No Comments

Y5K recently went to Ewden education centre. We’re learning about Water in our geography lessons at the moment so we went to find out all about water! We did two different activities, one where we went to find out about how water is cleaned and one where we were finding different facts out about where water comes from and what it’s job is. My favourite one was when we were finding out different facts about what water’s job is!
