On the 16th March (Red Nose Day) I went to take part in the Y6 Athletics Final at the English Institute of Sport. I am also in the Y5 school football team and I play for a Sunday league team, which is called Silkstone A team and do swimming lvl 12 and play for a tennis team. When school ended everyone was nervous. I went in Mrs Dawson’s car and it was about a 10 min drive. So far I have’nt even lost a race and i do the distence, hurdles, speedbounce and the mixed relay. My first race i came 3rd out of 8 then 1st then 2nd then 3rd.

On Friday 20th we had a theatre company called M&M, who performed the Wizard of Oz. The funniest part was when the munkchin kept on saying buy to the good witch. Softly, Dorothy started to sing ‘Somewhere over the rainbow’. She then put the puppet dog into the Year 3’s faces; it was like a fluffy cloud with black spots on it. The scarecrow was always running and doing flips, when Dorothy found him. It was amazing!!

On 20th April 2007 a theatre company came to SJS for the afternoon to perform the Wizard of Oz to the whole school. It was great all the way through but my favourite part was when the witch actually made a spark come out of her hand!

At playtime we go outside, play with our friends and eat our snacks. Some people play fooball but some don’t because they play other games. Most people can run as fast as cheaters because they are very fit. We have two different playgrounds one for the Y5 and 6s and one for the Y3 and 4s because it works easier to have two different yards. When the sun is shinning it is very very hot. One yard is bigger than the other.

On Monday 23rd of April we went to futsal it was at Goodwin and it storted at 10:oo. We took 7 players to play. We played four games and we won all of them! Sadly, after lunch, it all went wrong. In the finals we lost all the three games and one was against our own school’s Y6 team. We came 4th out of 17 and it was a good day out!!!!!!!!

On the 21st-25th May our school will have our yearly Healthy Week. Our favourite part from last year’s Healthy week was making fruit kebabs. You can have any healthy fruit in your kebab like strawberries, bananas, apple , water melon, melon and loads more. When you have finished you can take them home. On the 21st of May Stocksbridge Junior School will be holding their annual heathly week. There will be sports coaches coming in to teach us fun sports such as: tennis, basketball, skipping and much much more. There will hopefully be a karate display too. They are amazing; Healthy Week wouldn’t be the same without them!
I’m really looking forward to it!!
During our Healthy Week when we were in Year 3 , one class did an experiment to see what sugar does to our teeth.

This shows that to many fizzy drinks can damage your teeth.

Last week we each had a go at designing an outdoor playtime game . We had to make it not to hard not to easy and very bright and colourful . I did a very simple game , just throw a stone or a beenbag at 1,2,3,4,5,or 6 and that is the amount of steps you take. When you get to the finish you add up your points and see who has won.

Recently, Mrs Musgrave, our School Sports Co-ordinator, came in and did orienteering with us. It was very fun we had to have a map and there were numbers on it an say if it said 27 we had to go and find it. We had to find them and then stamp them to show we did it it was a race to see who could come first.
IT WAS GREAT!!!!!!!!

Last Tuesday (the 10th April 2007 to be precise) a theatre company called M&N productions came into school to perform the Wizard of Oz. It was an amazing performance. I really enjoyed it. The performance was just like the film and the scenery was brilliantly painted! The scarecrow did lots of acrobatics.

On Monday 23rd April, the Y5 and Y6 Futsal teams went to a tournament in Sheffield. When we got there, we had a kick about then we had matches. Amazingly we won our first 5 matches. After lunch we found out we’d made it through to the next round! We played 3 more matches but we lost all of them. Overall we finished fourth out of about 15 teams!

On Tuesday 24th April Mr Wilson’s literacy set were taught how to create podcasts by Miss W and Andy. We worked in pairs, which made it even more fun, to practice and record our reports on a carnival. We had written a first draft down the day before so we just had a little practice then used a program called Podium to record them. It was really exciting and I sounded really funny when I listened to myself!

On the 24th of April 2007 we did music. We watched a clip of a film about an astronaut and then we tried to make our own music to it. Everyone played their music to the class. We then made sounds with our mouthes to match the poem that we were given. It was really fun!

In year Mr Wilson’s literacy set, with Miss Willats, we did podcasts. Podcasts are a recorded piece of writing you can post onto the Internet. We used a program called ‘podium’ to record our podcasts. I worked with Emma D an Alice P. Once you press stop, It shows you how much you have recorded and how big the sound waves were depending on how loud you speak into it. I had a lot of fun, and can’t wait to do it again some time. We had to do it on a news report about a trip to a carnival, and we either worked in groups of two or three.

In music this week we have done conducting and making music to go with a film. We have been working in groups of three or four people to make sounds to lines of the poems.

I would like to make lunchtime better by setting up more games, making sure there are absolutely no bullies to small people and apparatus so we can enjoy the lunchtime. I’d like to make it longer like 85 minutes of play and more football because lots of people like football.

On the 24th of April the year 5 top literacy set made podcasts. The day before we all wrote about a carnival in the genre of a newspaper report so that we could record these as podcasts. We had to speak into a microphone which recorded our voies. Then we got to listen to it and see the sound waves. The podcasts were realy fun to make as everyone felt like real reporters! Some of us got jingles on the front of our reports, this made it sound really dramatic, like we were breaking news. On some of the reports we said about rides going at 25 miles an hour!
COOL!!!

I think the field needs something to clean the grass because I am allergic to it. We also need some more apparatus for the school . We need some new surfaces for the play ground and some more activities for dinner time. It would be nice if could not have the y6 telling us what to do all the time too!

On Friday the 20th of April 2007 the whole school went into the hall to watch the Wizard of Oz preformed by the M and M theatre company. It was so cool. My favorite chariter was the scarcrow (he was very good t gymnastics). The sets were so cool. It was loud because they were wearing microphones. My favorite part was when they went into the enchanted forest. Because the trees had food on them.

On Friday a theatre group came in to school to act the wizard of oz for us. The sets and costumes were brilliant as were the 5 actors/actresses who not onle played the 15 parts but also changed the scenes and controlled the sound effects. It was very well organised and also had microphones so we could hear them clearly.
We bumped in to tin man, lion and scarecrow and now we’re off to see the wizard….
