Basketball

December 5, 2006 · No Comments

Last night a squad of 20 Year 6 pupils travelled down to Hillsborough college for the first round of the Sheffield Schools Basketball Tournament.

Mrs G sorted us into an A team and a B Team, each competing in separate groups.  We competed against Oughtibridge, Deepcar, Nook Lane Bradfield Dungworth and Wharncliffe Side.

The A Team lost their first two games however came out fighting in the third game against local rivals Deepcar.  The A Team stretched their lead to 10-2 but some clumsy defending caused the game to finish at 10-10.

Our only training session obviously paid off as the A Team smashed Nook Lane 12-2.

The B Team won 2 games, drew 1 and lost 1, therefore finishing in 2nd place (joint with Deepcar B).  In any normal competition this would mean that as Runners up, the B team would go through to the semi final however, one of the rules of the competition means that a B Team cannot go through so Bradfield Dungworth school went through even though they hadn’t even won a single game!

It was a very exciting event even though we didn’t go through to the next round.

PS Congratulations to Mollie who was talent spotted by one of the Activity Sheffield sports coaches and invited to the Basketball academy!!!
